A Liberal Point of View

Charity Navigator

The intelligent way to give your money to charity.

Charity Navigator offers people the ability to investigate their favorite charities and find out exactly how much money they’re giving really goes to the intended goal and how much winds up in the administrative and advertisers pockets.  In addition to carefully researched findings on most marketable charities, Charity Navigator also provides a Donor Advisory Alert that highlights potential scams and frauds to be aware of.  For instance, in the case of a one “26.4.26 Foundation” on January 11, 2014,

USA Today reported that 26.4.26 Foundation, “a Tennessee charity raising money to honor the victims of the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is unable to account for $70,000 of the funds.

something I’m sure many would-be investors in that charity might like to know.  Further more,

” And as to the charity’s co-founder Robbie Bruce, the article noted that he “didn’t return repeated telephone messages. No one answered the door at his apartment last week.”

Although this isn’t a clear and cut indictment against the worthiness of  26.4.26 Foundation, it does offer some very unsettling clues.  So, the next time you have a desire to give or someone is tugging on your heart-strings for money, check them out at the Charity Navigator.
